Every once in a while I ask myself this question: Do you have what it takes to start a business?
Running a business takes a lot of Passion and Commitment. You are passionate about your idea, but can you commit to it? Starting a business is a lot of work. Most entrepreneurs find themselves working alone for 12 to 15 hour a day.
Are you organized and able to multitask? At least in the very bringing, before you hire employees, you will be working alone. Working alone means you do everything! You have to be Accounting, Sales and Marketing, Research and Development, Operations, IT and Human Resources. It is a lot of work and you have to be prepared to do all this work for little to no income for the next 2 to 3 years.
Are you decisive? In business, it is just as important to know when to move on as it is to know when to act. As your business grows and you take on employees, you will have to make really tough choices that will affect people lives other than your own. You have to be fair, even if being fair leads to some really tough choices.
Are you physically fit to handle stress? Running a business can be very stressful. Stress can take a toll on your body. Entrepreneurs need to exercise, eat well and sleep.
Last but not least, starting a business is a huge risk and a good entrepreneur takes calculated risks. Gut feeling are very important, but they can be wrong. A good entrepreneur considers all the pro and cons before jumping in.
